San Francisco Rental Cars

San Francisco can be an expensive city to visit, but luckily you rarely need a car for short trips. San Francisco has excellent public transportation, between taxis, busses, streetcars, BART, and the ever-present cable cars. Add in the difficulty of finding parking in the more popular areas, and we recommend skipping a rental car altogether, at least on short jaunts. You generally only need a rental car if you're traveling out of the city. That being said, there are plenty of great places to go where are car is necessary. The Napa wine country, Oakland, Berkley, the Muir Woods, Sonoma and the Monterey Peninsula are all spectacular sights and well worth the trip, if you have the time. If you do need a rental car we've got some great last minute deals here, or check the bottom of the page for more San Francisco transportation options.
