Awaken in a Strange Town

Awaken, quite alone, in a strange town. Scary… and awesome.

I love this quote. It’s part of the reason we all travel, right?

If you’re itching to get out of the house and see some natural beauty, next week is the week. That’s because the week of April 21-29 is National Parks Week, and for that entire week you get free entrance to all national parks!
To get more information and to find the list of all the national parks participating, check out this list for the National Parks Service.
And if for some reason you can’t get away next week, there are a few other dates during the rest of the year where the park entrance free is waived: June 9 (Get Outdoors Day), September 29 (National Public Lands Day), and November 10-12 (Veteran’s Day weekend).
Get out and have some fun!

That’s right, you can fly to Hawaii for as little as $340 round-trip, a great deal. That low price is for flights from San Jose to Maui, but great deals from other cities are available, too. Book by Monday, April 16!

While you’re sitting back at the beach this summer soaking up the sun, don’t forget about the music! While you rightfully don’t want to ruin your iPod (or other device), you don’t have to worry about it with the Beach Sounds Sound System. Plug your MP3 player inside the sealed compartment, close it up, and you have all the music you love, along with no worries that your device is getting wet or sandy. It’s a win-win.

Not just for reducing noise on airplanes, Eagle Creek Kidplanes also are supposed to help ease the pain and discomfort from pressure changes during air travel. They are kid sized, hypoallergenic, and apparently fairly comfortable. While I love the idea of this product, I don’t know if they work. Has anyone out there tried these?

We’ve talked about National Geographic Books in the past, specifically Food Journeys of a Lifetime. We love these books – the writing is top notch, and the photos are exactly what you’d expect from National Geographic. Now, for a limited time, you can choose one of the three Journeys of a Lifetime books, and get it for half price from Groupon! This deal is only valid until April 9, so you have to act fast!

Though I suspect the Public Toilet Survival Kit from Archie McPhee (via Perpetual Kid) is meant as a joke, I like the idea. Some public restrooms are rather… frightening, and a survival kit is just what you need. This kit has one toilet seat cover, two antiseptic wipes, and one pair of latex disposable gloves. I’d throw in some anti-bacterial hand cleaner, but otherwise I like it!
