There’s really only one good trick to finding good Southwest Airlines deals – book as early as you can. With the funky way the Southwest booking engine works, you can easily see the different prices and different times on all their flights. And since flights are now available for booking around the holidays, you can definitely find some great deals if you book now.
For example, I found a round-trip from Seattle to Phoenix leaving on Wedenesday, Dec. 23, coming back on Sunday, Dec. 27 for $299 round-trip, including all taxes – not a bad price at all. However, I did searches for cheap East Coast flights, and I see a bunch of red “Unavailable” warnings. My suggestion? If you’re planning on any Thanksgiving or Christmas trips this year, book as soon as you can! Prices are only going to go up!

According to this recent AP article, travel to the Hawaiian Islands has slowed by 8.2 percent through July, and revenue is down $1.1 Billion so far this year (compared with last year). Those visitors that do visit the islands stay fewer nights and spend less money than in previous years as well.
What does this mean for you and other budget-minded travelers? There is going to be a big slate of new promotions this fall! If you’re looking forward to some Hawaiian vacation deals, they’ll be coming in the next few months. We’ll keep you posted on all the lastest deals, but start saving your pennies now – you might be able to use them on a fantastic vacation before the year is done!
